| 25 years after the release of the first G-Shock, the DW-5000C, Casio releases the GW-M5600. It is the long waited 5 bands Waveceptor version with the classic G-Shock design. Although it is the 6th generation, Casio did not change much of the original design, but under the bezel a lot has been changed over the years.
This model features a 5-band Waveceptor function. This means it picks up singals from Anthorn (UK), Mainflingen (Germany), Fort Collins, CO (US), Fukushima (Japann) and Fukuoka/Saga (Japan).
This means if the watch is set for automatic reception (Standard), it syncs itself to the atomic clocks in large parts of Europe and the US and Japan. It looks like Casio has even improved the reeption function. Normally I have to place a waveceptor near a window, but the GW-M5600 syncs perfectly in the middle of my living room.
The watch is Tough Solar. This means the watch can store a large capacity of energy, to keep the watch running for months without light (up to eight months on a full battery). The battery is already charged with dim indoor light.
If you just received this watch, do not forget to set your city code. This way the watch knows which signals to receive.
The watch has the following functions:
Worldtime (47 cities)
Stopwatch (1000 hour capacity, optional with 5 seconds contdown)
Countdown Timer (60 minutes)
Alarms (5 alarms and a hourly signal)
The watch comes in a nice speial G-Shock tin. The cap of the tin is designed like the back of the first G-Shock. Personally I would have liked a 24h or 100h countdown timer on this watch, but that's the only small complaint I have about this great watch.
